Gilles trillard is a French artist living and working in Paris.
A self taught artist,he painted his first artworks in his early twenties while beginning a career as photographer. From this eventual contradiction with regards to an image (derived from the existing versus the imaginary), he evokes nonetheless many benefits such as the sense of composition, depth and pace. The purpose being an affair of reflection, attentive to one's emotions, immersed within the framework that he always considers as a renewal of perception for his research. He does not see a flat surface but rather a terra incognita to be discovered. As many young artists he is inflenced by contemporary masters, and in his case the guides were Tapiès, Zaou Wou Ki, Cy Twombly, Fautrier… He rapidly understand that one must cross a period of deciphering the art prior to finding his own style. The inevitable passage to obtain humility, avoid discouragement and thus create painting after painting, transforming doubt into conviction. To express in a language that instantly conveys a reality that is unique to him. During twenty five years he built and created a world that welcomed his muses and his demons. Passing smoothly, listening to his desires, from figurative to abstract expressionism. Ultimately abandoning color to explore the richness of greys, blacks and whites. This simplification enables him to pursue the essential: the emotional power. He prefers acrylic oil, ink and charcoal, that allows the urgency of his conversation with the paper. Like a writer who crosses out and recorvers his thoughts to built a perfect phrase. Following a ten years period of reflection, he has come back to his atelier, living and seeing is painting as an initiatory journey, as if walking for the first time in the footsteps of a twin, experimenting in each painting the force of discovery. A constant rebirth. Everything for him is an inspiration: reading, writing, music, interaction with others. Everything that flows trough his spirit, stepping out of his boundaries which provokes the creativity, without filters and without defined objective other than to paint with the utmost spontaneity.
